A former Headteacher of a Pupil Referral Unit in Wales, Gareth is recognised for strategic leadership in behaviour, inclusion and alternative provision. He works closely with local authorities to strengthen support for children and young people with the highest levels of need, driving equity, improving attendance and building systems that are consistent, predictable and sustainable.

Alongside his work with Navigate,  Gareth serves as the Local Authority Lead for Deprivation and Rural Challenges, an Estyn Peer Inspector, and a contributor to national forums shaping equity in education. He also mentors aspiring headteachers and NPQH candidates, supporting the next generation of leadership with the same humility and depth he brings to every setting.

The bits he won't say...

...but Charlotte will.

When Gareth first called me, it was to talk about training.

Instead, we ended up in a deep conversation about the children he was supporting in his PRU in Ceredigion and my own lived experiences of trauma. He listened. He asked thoughtful questions, reflected honestly on his practice, and held the conversation with care.  That told me everything about the kind of leader he is.

I’ve since watched him challenge schools, support leaders and advocate fiercely for children and families, always with compassion and never with ego. He holds hope for everyone he works with. He is passionate about how people learn, not just in classrooms, but across whole communities, and he brings a quiet confidence that allows him to challenge without creating defensiveness. Compassionate and empathetic, yes, but also clear, strong and boundaried.

He is a proud dad, grounded in what matters. And for me, he has been instrumental in building my own confidence and courage. I am deeply proud to be in business with him, and I know that the people he works with feel both supported and stretched in equal measure.
